Bi-Weekly House Cleaning Service
Bi-weekly cleaning means we come every two weeks, on the same day, for a flat rate that does not change from visit to visit. This page is about how that standing appointment actually runs.
What does bi-weekly house cleaning mean?
Every two weeks — twice a month, on a fixed day. Not twice a week. It is the schedule most Happy Maids clients are on.
Fourteen days is the interval where a clean still holds. Shower film, dust on the sills and the grease film above the range never get the chance to establish, so each visit is maintenance rather than recovery.
Choosing between weekly, every two weeks and every four weeks is covered on our recurring maid service page. This page assumes you have picked and want to know what you are actually signing up for.
Why is a bi-weekly clean a flat rate when a deep clean is charged by time?
Because a home on a fixed rhythm is predictable, and a home we have never cleaned is not.
A recurring rate is set once, from three things: the size of the home, the services you choose, and its condition. Then it stays put.
- It does not change with the hours. If the team is there longer one week, that is our problem, not your invoice
- It does not change with the number of cleaners. Two or three people, same rate
- You know the number before the visit, every time
One-off work is the opposite. A deep clean, a single occasional clean or a move-out clean is charged for the time it takes, pro-rated, because condition is the variable and nobody can see it over the phone.
Recurring clients also get a discount, and its size is tied to how often we come. That is arithmetic, not a loyalty scheme: a house cleaned every two weeks takes less time per visit than the same house cleaned every four. Change the frequency and the discount can change with it.
What happens on your cleaning day
The point of a standing appointment is that you stop thinking about it. Here is what that looks like from your side.
- Your day is yours. We do not move a scheduled service day without your consent
- Two text reminders — three days before and one day before, each with an arrival window of about an hour
- An arrival window, not an exact time. Traffic, weather and the house before yours all move it. The day is guaranteed; the hour is a best estimate, and we would rather say so
- The same team, wherever we can manage it — a smaller home is usually one cleaner, and homes over about 3,000 square feet get two. By month three they know which shower has the hard-water problem and where the vacuum plugs in without tripping a breaker
- You do not need to be home. A key, an entry code, or a free secure lockbox we set up for you
- Closed doors stay closed. Rooms you want left alone, shut the door; rooms you want cleaned, leave it open
- If something is missed, call the office within two business days and we come back and re-clean that area at no charge
What if I need to move or skip a cleaning?
Moving a visit and skipping a visit are two different things, and only one of them costs you anything. This is the part most people find out about too late, so here it is plainly.
- Rescheduling — free. Push the clean a few days earlier or later and there is no fee, as long as you give at least two full business days' notice. If your clean falls on a Monday, that means telling us by Thursday morning
- Skipping — there is a fee. Not a penalty for the sake of it. A skipped clean means four weeks between visits instead of two, so there is more built up and the next visit takes our technicians longer. The fee covers that extra work
- Skipping repeatedly — bringing a home back to maintenance condition takes real hours, and those are charged at the hourly rate on top
- Late changes — a change or cancellation with less than two full business days' notice is charged, because the team's day was already reserved and the office can no longer offer that slot to someone else
The practical advice: call the office and move it rather than skip it. A visit shifted by three days costs nothing and keeps the house on its rhythm. Travel, holidays and a full month away are all things we deal with weekly — there is almost always a version that works.
What you can change on a bi-weekly plan
There is no contract and no minimum term. Happy Maids works at will — services can be stopped at any point. Give the office two full business days' notice on any change or cancellation and there is nothing to pay.
Inside the plan, most people adjust something in the first few months:
- Rotate the extras — interior windows twice a year, inside the refrigerator each spring, the finished lower level every second visit
- Change the frequency — weekly through the winter, every two weeks once the family is outdoors more. Bear in mind the discount is tied to the frequency, so it can move too
- Drop rooms you do not use, or have different floors done on different visits. How a custom cleaning plan is built covers that in detail
- Add a task permanently — say it once, it goes on your file, and nobody has to be told twice
Anything added to a single visit needs at least one business day's notice. Add-ons cannot be arranged at the door on the day.

What does every-two-week cleaning cost?
Happy Maids prices every clean by the time a home honestly takes — square footage, how many bathrooms, and the condition it is in right now. Two very different homes should not pay the same number, so we do not pretend they do.
Call us for your exact price — free, no obligation, and a real person answers.
- Home size & baths — the two biggest levers.
- How often we come — recurring visits lower the per-clean rate.
- Add-ons — inside oven or fridge, interior windows, and more, on request.
You don't have to have the whole house cleaned. Plenty of clients have us clean only the rooms they use, alternate floors between visits, or skip tasks they handle themselves. Read what you can change.
The practical questions
Common questions
Every two weeks is the rhythm most of our clients choose, and for most homes around here it is the right one.
These are the questions people ask before starting — what changes with frequency, what it costs, and whether a deep clean comes first.
If yours is not below, call the office. A real person answers.
View all frequently asked questions →Does a bi-weekly clean cost the same every visit?
Yes. Recurring cleaning is a flat rate, set from the size of your home, the services you choose and its condition.
It does not move with the hours worked or with how many cleaners come. Two or three people, three hours or five — the rate is the rate.
That is the opposite of how a deep clean, a one-time clean or a move-out clean is billed; those are charged for the time they take. Get a ballpark from the estimate tool, then call 847-382-0082 for your actual number.
Do I get a discount for booking regularly?
Yes. Recurring cleanings are discounted, and the size of the discount is set by how often we come — more frequent, larger discount.
The reason is practical rather than promotional: a home cleaned every two weeks takes less time per visit than the same home cleaned every four, because nothing gets a chance to build up.
Two things follow from that. Change your frequency and the discount can change with it. And if you take a discounted first clean on the basis of starting a schedule, that schedule needs to actually start.
What happens if I skip a scheduled cleaning?
There is a fee for a skipped visit, and it exists for a specific reason rather than to punish you.
Skip one clean and there are four weeks between visits instead of two. More time means more built up, and the next visit takes our technicians longer — the fee covers that extra work.
What to do instead:
- Reschedule rather than skip — a few days earlier or later is free with two full business days' notice
- Call the office if you are traveling. There is usually a version that works
If several cleanings are skipped in a row, bringing the home back to maintenance condition takes real hours, and those are charged at the hourly rate.
Am I locked into a contract?
No. There is no contract and no minimum term. Happy Maids operates at will and you can stop at any point.
What we do ask for is notice. Give the office at least two full business days on any change or cancellation and there is nothing to pay. Below that, the visit is charged, because the team's day was already reserved and that slot can no longer go to another client.
It is not a lock-in. It is the difference between telling us on Thursday and telling us on Monday morning.
Will I get the same cleaners on the same day every two weeks?
That is how we schedule it, and it is the main reason to use us instead of a platform that sends whoever is available.
- Our cleaners are our employees — W-2, background-checked, bonded and insured — so we can hold them to the same route
- Your service day is not changed without your consent
- Illness, weather and holidays happen. When they do, the office calls you in advance rather than surprising you at the door
By the third or fourth visit the team knows the house. Nobody has to be told twice about the floor that cannot take much moisture or the cat that bolts.
Do I need to be home every two weeks?
No, and most of our bi-weekly clients are at work. Letting ourselves in is the normal arrangement rather than a special one.
- Access — a key, an entry code, or a free secure lockbox we set up for you
- Alarm — disable it on your cleaning day or give us the codes, and we will set it again before we leave
- Closed-door policy — a closed door means we do not go in, so it doubles as a way to skip a room on any given visit
Your preferences live on a file attached to your home, so they survive a change of team.
Do I need a deep clean before starting bi-weekly service?
It depends on the condition of the house, and we will tell you honestly.
If baseboards, grout, vents and the tops of door frames have not been washed in a long time, a deep clean first is what makes every visit afterwards fast and consistent. You cannot dust a baseboard that was never washed — the dust is bonded to a film, and dusting only moves it around.
If your home is already in good shape, we skip it and start straight on the schedule. That is a real answer we give on the phone, not a sales step.
Is every two weeks often enough for my house?
For most homes here, yes — it is the schedule the majority of our clients choose.
- Go weekly if the house is heavily used: young children, pets, a kitchen cooked in every night
- Every two weeks suits most households, and it is the easiest place to start judging from
- Every four weeks suits a quiet house — a couple who travel, an empty nest, a weekend home
You can move between them by calling the office. Picking a cleaning frequency goes through it properly, and we will say if we think you are on the wrong one.
