One-time cleaning
BBB Accredited BusinessA one-time clean is our standard house cleaning, booked once. There is no schedule, nothing to sign and nothing to cancel, and Happy Maids sends the same employees and the same checklist whether you ever call again or not. We call it an occasional clean internally, because that is what it usually is: cleaning when you need it rather than on a rhythm.

Who books one
Nobody has to justify it, and we are not going to talk you into a schedule you did not ask for. These are the reasons people actually call.
Family staying, a party, the holidays, or a house about to be photographed for a listing.
Illness, surgery, a new baby, a parent who needed looking after. Houses get away from people, and getting one back is ordinary work for us.
One visit tells you more about a cleaning company than any amount of reading about one.
The house is kept up and just wants a reset — usually a couple of times a year.
Arranging a clean for a parent, an adult child, or a friend who is not up to it right now. A parent who should not be climbing to reach a shower ceiling. An adult child in a first house. You are not the one who will be home, so you need a company that answers the phone, sends a team you can vouch for, and does not need supervising. We can bill you and clean for them.
The mistake people make when booking
A one-time house cleaning describes how often we come. A deep house cleaning describes how far we go. They are two different questions, and people routinely book the wrong one — which makes this the single most useful thing on the page.
Baseboards, trim, blinds and sills dusted; cabinet fronts spot-cleaned where marks show; showers given a standard scrub.
The same surfaces hand-washed; the whole cabinet front washed, grease film above the range included; a far longer scrub of shower glass, tile and grout.
So the honest rule: if the house has been kept up, one standard clean will make it look excellent. If it has not been cleaned properly in a year, one standard clean will not get there — that is a deep clean, and it takes longer. Tell us the truth about the house on the phone and we will tell you which one you need.

How the money works
One-off work is charged hourly and pro-rated in ten-minute increments, so you pay for the time our cleaners are actually in the home and nothing else. That is deliberately different from how a recurring plan is priced.
By time, because we have not been in the home before and condition is the thing we cannot see over the phone. You get a time range up front and the final charge follows the real hours.
A flat rate, based on the size of the home, the services chosen and its condition. It does not move visit to visit.
Recurring clients get a discount tied to how often we come — a single visit does not carry it, because the saving comes from a home that never gets a chance to build up. And clearing the floors before we arrive genuinely lowers the bill, because the clock is running on cleaning either way.
Scope, without the small print
The standard checklist runs the same way on a one-time visit as it does for a long-standing client. Every room, top down, floors last. Happy Maids has provided residential house cleaning services across Barrington and the northwest suburbs since 1985, and a one time cleaning is held to exactly the same standard as a weekly one.
Standard on every clean, never an upsell and never an extra charge.
They hold what they lift instead of returning fine dust to the room, which matters in homes with pets.
A cloth used in a bathroom cannot end up on a kitchen counter.
You keep nothing on hand for us.

Common questions
What people ask before booking a single visit.
View all frequently asked questions →Yes. There is no contract, no minimum number of visits and nothing to cancel afterwards. A deposit is taken when you book a first appointment and it goes toward the cost of the clean. Cancel very close to the date and it can be forfeited, so give the office as much notice as you can — they will tell you the exact terms when you book. If you decide afterwards that you want us back on a schedule, you call us. We do not put you on one by default.
There is no flat rate. A 1,800 square foot townhouse and a 5,000 square foot house are not the same job, and a one-time clean is charged for the time it takes. Four things drive that time: square footage, how many bathrooms, the condition at the start, and what you add — inside the oven, inside the refrigerator, interior windows. Call 847-382-0082 for the real figure. It is free and there is no obligation.
No, and the reason is worth understanding. Recurring clients get a discount, and its size is tied to how often we come. It is not a loyalty reward. A home cleaned every two weeks takes less time per visit than the same home cleaned once, because nothing is ever allowed to establish itself — shower film, dust on the sills, grease above the range. A single visit does not have that history behind it, so it is priced on the hours it actually takes.
In the same house, yes — hand-washing a baseboard is slower than dusting it, and a deep clean hand-washes what a standard clean dusts. But that only helps if the house is in a condition where dusting works. You cannot dust a baseboard that has not been washed in a year.
Often that is exactly how it starts, and it is entirely your call. Plenty of one-time cleans turn into a schedule. Plenty do not, and that is a complete transaction either way. If you want us back on a rhythm, call the office and the recurring discount starts with it.
No. Roughly half our clients are home and half are not. Many leave a key or a code on file with us. Whatever you are comfortable with is fine, and it does not change how the visit is done.
