Everyone comes in through the garage door. Does that change how you clean?
Yes. Here the mudroom door is the real front door, and it is where nearly all the outside dirt enters. We work the mudroom, laundry, back stairs and kitchen as the high-load zones and treat the foyer as the low-traffic room it usually is — the bench and the hooks above it, the door trim and switch plates, the baseboards, the floor around the washer, and the stair treads at the end of it. We also clean under the boot mat rather than around it.
The wood floor by the back door is going dull. Is the gravel doing that?
Probably, and the fix is an order of operations rather than a stronger product. Grit has to come out of the floor before any water touches it — a damp mop dragged over dry grit turns it into a slurry and pushes it across the finish, which is exactly how luxury vinyl plank goes cloudy in the traffic lane. So we vacuum first, every time, then mop in detail, and work the strip along the baseboard and under the toe kick where grit parks. If a finish is already dulled, cleaning will not bring it back — that is a refinishing question — but stopping the abrasion stops it getting worse.
Our house is a Sumner Glen plan. Do you know it already?
Probably. Lake in the Hills was built by a short list of production builders — Town and Country Homes did Big Sky and Sumner Glen, Sundance did Bellchase and Spring Lake Farms, Ryland did Meadowbrook and Heron Bay — so the same plans repeat across whole subdivisions. Sumner Glen homes run roughly 2,100 to 3,500 square feet. Tell the office your subdivision when you book and we will already know most of what we need to.
Our kids are in a different school district than our neighbors. Can you work around that?
Yes, and here it has to be handled house by house. Lake in the Hills is split among Huntley District 158, Community Unit District 300, and Crystal Lake’s District 47 with District 155 for high school — four calendars, four sets of start times, four spring breaks, and no village-wide week when school is out. Tell the office which district you are in and which weeks matter. Recurring clients keep the same day and the same familiar team whenever we can.
