Happy Maids has cleaned houses in Barrington Hills — ZIPs 60010, 60021 and 60102 — since 1985, and our office is fifteen minutes up the road in Lake Barrington. There is no municipal water or sewer out here; the Village says it plainly — most homes run on a private well and their own septic. Hard well water films glass shower doors, faucets and stainless faster than most owners expect. We take another layer off each visit with standard supplies, so glass and fixtures come back over several visits rather than one, and we will not reach for anything harsh enough to etch glass or pit stone to force it faster. We also keep the chemical load light, because everything we rinse ends up in your own septic field.

The village’s five-acre-minimum zoning has been on the books since 1963, so nearly every house here is a one-off custom build of 4,000 to 10,000-plus square feet at the end of a long private drive — and no two are alike. A 1910s gentleman-farmer estate with original hardwood, plaster walls and antique fixtures wants a gentler hand than a 2003 custom build in Pond Gate Farms. Near the water in Barrington Lakes, and around the many private ponds, humidity keeps working on bathroom grout, mudroom corners and lower levels between visits. The smaller, easy-care lots in Paganica are a different job again. We size the crew and the checklist to the house instead of running one list across all of them.

Then there is what walks in from outside. With the 150-plus miles of bridle paths the Riding Club of Barrington Hills maintains and the Spring Lake preserve at the village’s edge, gravel dust, tree pollen and spring mud ride in on boots nine months of the year, and a property with a paddock or a barn adds hay dust and dander that drifts room to room. Mudrooms, boot rooms and back halls take the beating first, so that is where we start rather than where we finish. Between Countryside Elementary pickup, the bus down to the Barrington 220 middle and high schools and the drive to the Metra station, most of the day our team is inside and you are not — so we work on coded or keyed access with the same background-checked team whenever we can.
