The forest preserve behind us gets burned every spring. Does that come inside?
Yes, and you usually know it is coming. The DuPage Forest Preserve District runs prescribed burns in late fall and early spring and mails a postcard to every household within a thousand feet of a burn site. Ash and smoke settle on sills, screens, sliders and any surface near a vent, so on the south and west side of the village — Hawk Hollow, Woodland Hills, Fairfax, Herons Landing — the visit after a burn puts extra time on glass, sills and tracks.
Our kitchen cabinets still feel tacky after we wipe them. What is that?
Condensed cooking oil, not dirt.
