There is mildew in the tub caulk and the grout even though we clean. Why does it keep coming back?
The exhaust fan. Roselle’s 1970s builder baths were fitted with fans that were undersized when they were new, and nearly fifty years later they still cannot clear the steam from a shower before it condenses on the grout and the caulk. We clean those lines every visit and go further on a deep clean, but a fan that cannot move the moisture keeps feeding it. Running the fan twenty minutes after a shower, or having it upsized, is what actually ends it.
Our one-piece fiberglass tub surround has gone dull and cloudy. Can you bring it back?
Usually, but not in one visit. Molded fiberglass is a pebbled, slightly porous surface that holds soap and mineral film, and it hazes permanently if someone scours it — that damage cannot be undone, so we put nothing abrasive on it. Each cleaning lifts part of the film rather than all of it, so the surround comes back over several visits, and a regular schedule is what keeps it clear.
We are in a coach home with no basement. Is that a different job?
It is, and Roselle has far more of them than the county around it — three- and four-unit buildings are 11.7% of the housing here against 4.0% for DuPage County. There is nowhere to stage equipment, no utility sink, the laundry sits in a hall closet, and the entry is shared with neighbors. Our mailing address says Roselle but we are in unincorporated Medinah. Do you come out there?
Yes. The Village’s own FAQ names Medinah and Countryside as unincorporated pockets outside the corporate limits that cannot connect to Village water or sewer until an owner petitions to annex, so those homes are on private wells even though the mail says Roselle. We clean them the same way, with one adjustment: well water leaves more film on glass and fixtures, so those surfaces get more of the visit.
